Laurel Falls is among the most visited waterfalls in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This image captures the intimate beauty trailside of the falls upper section, and is a wonderful reminder of the park's natural beauty.
The moderate 2.6 miles roundtrip hike finds a trail lined with the falls's namesake--mountain laurel. With the trailhead along the road to Cades Cove, near the Sugarland Visitors Center, park visitors of all ages make the trek to the 80 foot falls on the Laurel Branch. Keep your eyes open as black bears are known to frequent the area!
Laurel Falls trail contains the longest paved section of trail in the park. #GSMNP boasts 800 miles of trails, with only 3 miles paved over four separate trails. The Laurel Falls trail was first cut in 1932, at a cost of $590, as a fire trail, allowing fire crews access to the Cove Mountain area.
