Description
A 'tin man' water tower stands over Matador, Texas. The west Texas town was first organized in 1891 and controlled by the Matador Ranch. Residents, weary of the ranch syndicate's control, seized control of the town in 1896. In an effort to maintain the city's freedom from the ranch, the anti-ranch faction facilitated the move of 40 families to town from Erath County. Matador is the county seat of Motley County and sits along US highway 70 in the high plains of west Texas.
