Majestic Mount Rainier stands 14,410 feet above sea level as the iconic landscape feature in Washington State. On a clear day Rainier looms above the Seattle skyline. The heavily glaciated, active volcanic peak serves as the source for six major rivers. The rugged beauty of Rainier is ringed by old growth forests. The day I visited Rainier played hide-and-seek with cloud coverage--more hide than seek! Early afternoon the peak made a brief (literally only a couple of minutes) appearance. Fortunately, I was near a roadside pullout. The old growth forest nicely framed the peak. I snapped a couple of quick exposures before the clouds covered the mountain.
