Central to the parecclesion frescoes inside Istanbul's Church of St. Savior at Chora, is Jesus Christ pulling Adam and Eve from their respective tombs. The resurrection of Adam and Eve is part of a larger end of time image that fills the semi dome of the parecclesion apse.
A parecclesion is a side chapel commonly found in Byzantine architecture. Chora's parecclesion sits on the eastern side of the church complex, a location of importance to religious ritual. Chora's longitudinal parecclesion is decorated with remains of rich 14thc century frescoes and mosaics. The central focus of the apse is the detailed depiction of resurrection and judgement. As one enters the apse the Virgin Mary and child Jesus, surrounded by an angelic host, look down upon worshipers from the parecclesion dome.
