Description
The Gateway Arch stands as St. Louis' iconic landmark, the centerpiece of Gateway Arch National Park. Erected as a monument to Thomas Jefferson's vision of westward expansion, the Arch attracts visitors from around the globe. Visitors gather at each base, necks craned upward as their eyes follow the slender arch into the ether. Its stainless steel exterior, clad to a carbon steel skeleton, glistens in the sun, projecting an image of strength and hope.
The arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen. The 630 foot high triangular arch design meet the National Park Services critieria for a monument "transcending in spiritual and aesthetic values" and symbolizing "American culture and civilization." The St. Louis Arch opened to the public in 1965.
This image is the perfect piece of art for those who love St. Louis and/or architecture. Simple, yet, modern, in black and white, the image is available in multiple hanging orientations to fit decor needs and tastes.
