Description
Harris Hall houses offices for the Auburn University Graduate School. The landmark building first opened in 1888. Over the years fires and renovations shaped the course of academic departments (chemistry, architecture, music, and now the Graduate School) and name. Following a devastating fire in the late 1970s the widow of former Auburn student Dr. Estes Hargis (1915-1917) funded renovations, resulting in the Hargis name attached to the building. Dr. Hargis served as assistant to famed surgeon Dr. W.J. Mayo (Mayo Clinic).
