The vintage motel sign marks the location of Memphis's Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King, Jr., was struck down by an assassin's bullet on 4 April 1968. Today, the Lorraine Hotel houses the National Civil Rights Museum, advancing the work and legacy of Dr. King.
