Description
The ruins of San Geronimo de Taos are surrounded by sacred ground and serve as a reminder of the complicated history of Native Americans, Roman Catholic missionaries, and external governments. The mission was destroyed in 1846 in the midst of Mexican and Indian revolts against American annexation of the region, having stood as the third mission structure at the pueblo from 1726 to 1846.
