Description
The Erechtheion, or Temple of Athena Polias, stands as a unique representation of Greek temple architecture on the north side of Athen's Acropolis. Its asymmetrical design is out of character with architectural style of the Greek classical period. Construction dates to a period ranging from 430s B.C.E. to 406 B.C.E., with the current structure replacing previous temples on the site. Scholars debate the precise cultic function of the building with attributions to Athena and Poseidon. The Porch of Maidens, supported by six statuesque women, stands as the temple's iconic feature. Usage of the structure changed with the history of Athens. As Christianity ascended in the Roman Empire the Temple of Polias was transitioned to a church.
This black and white image makes for the perfect piece of wall art to remember one's visit to the Acropolis.
I recommend a classic framed print--luster photo paper, classic white mat, & contemporary black wood frame (BGB11 frame).
