Description
Nineteenth century cartographer traveled the United States and Canada producing hand drawn, panoramic and 'bird's-eye' maps of cities and landmarks. Lithograph companies in Chicago and Boston mass produced the hand drawn maps for sale to citizens and businesses. For growing cities in the west, such as McKinney, Texas, such a map served as a promotional piece to attract prospective residents.
This birds-eye map records McKinney, Texas (pop. 2,000) in 1876--the nation's centennial year. McKinney served as the county seat of Collin County and sat along the recently completed Houston & Texas Central Railroad. The H & TC RR provided an all-rail route from Texas to St. Louis, and on to the east coast. With a impressive $90,000 court house, schools, churches, and business, McKinney had much to offer those to the East seeking a fresh start in Texas.
This map, drawn by D. D. Morse and produced by Charles Shober and the Chicago Lithograph Company, is the perfect addition to a home or business proud of its Texas heritage.
Please note, this is a copy of a vintage map. It bears the marks of almost 125 years of use, adding to the vintage feel of the map.
