Description
Autherine Lucy Foster enrolled at the University of Alabama Spring 1956. As classes started an angry mob of protesters forced Lucy to take refuge inside Bibb Graves Hall. Only three days into classes the university suspended Lucy, citing her safety as the reason. The university revoked Lucy's expulsion in 1988. February 2022 University of Alabama renamed the School of Education building Autherine Lucy Hall. The building previously bore the name of former Alabama governor and Klan leader, Bibb Graves.
