Description
The dustbin fairing nose on this 1956 Norton Manx 350 is ready for speed. The nose resembles a fighter jet. Dustbin fairings were used on Grand Prix motorcycles in the 1950s to decrease wind resistance and increase speed. Safety concerns, however, led to a 1958 ban of dustbins--problematic in strong crosswinds. This particular bike raced in the Isle of Man TT, placing 15th in its first run. The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy runs annually in May/June and is known as one of the most dangerous races in the world.
