The moving Twentieth Century Martyrs Memorial above the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey commemorates ten 20th-century martyrs. Installed in 1998,the complete work feature 10 individuals selected to represent multiple denominations and regions of the world--all faithful witness.

This image highlights three of modern martyrs featured in the Westminster Memorial. From left to right:

Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia--killed by the Bolsheviks in 1918, Elizabeth, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria, joined the Sisters of Love and Mercy following the assassination of her husband, Grand Duke Sergei;

Martin Luther King--American Baptist pastor, noted civil rights leader, symbol of hope for social change, assassinated in 1968; and,

Oscar Romero--San Salvador's Roman Catholic Archbishop, a critic of the military government, was murdered during a religious service.
